NFC NORTH TEAM BREAKDOWNS
Team: Chicago Bears
Offensive Strategy: Balanced. Jay Cutler can be hugely inconsistent on Sundays in the NFL. However, because of his strong arm and his solid accuracy ratings, he is a top 10 Madden 25 quarterback. The Bears receiving core is one of the best kept secrets in the game as well. Everyone knows about WR Brandon Marshall but Devin Hester is much more effective in Madden games then in actual football because of his speed attributes. Alshon Jeffrey, while lacking a good speed rating, is a big body receiver (which is always important in Madden) with very good catch, catch in traffic, and spectacular catch ratings. Add in the fact that Matt Forte doesn’t have injury problems since it is a video game and you have an elite offense in Madden 25.
Defensive Strategy: Bend but don’t break. Unfortunately Brian Urlacher’s retirement hurts the Bears defense significantly in Madden 25. Your best bet is to keep everything in front of you and let your linebackers force fumbles with hitsticks and your secondary (that in general has good catch ratings) go for a few interceptions. Julius Peppers is still a top 5 pass rusher in the game.
Impact Players: QB Jay Cutler, HB Matt Forte, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Devin Hester, WR Alshon Jeffery, OLB Lance Briggs, CB Charles “Peanut” Tillman, DE Julius Peppers
Key Newcomers: LB Jon Bostic, OLB D.J. Williams, TE Martellus Bennett, OT Jermon Bushrod
Biggest Strength: Balance on offense. The Bears have the pieces to run really any offense in Madden 25. Your opponent should never know what play you are calling.
Biggest Weakness: Safety. The Bears’ safeties are pretty effective on Sundays but that hasn’t translated at all to success in Madden games over the last few years.
Team: Detroit Lions
Offensive Strategy: Vertical passing. Matt Stafford has a huge arm which translate to a 99 throw power rating in Madden 25 and Calvin Johnson Jr. can get open against any coverage you throw at him. When you mix that in with 2 very effective speed backs in Reggie Bush and Jahvid Best, you have a downright scary Madden offense.
Defensive Strategy: Pressure the quarterback. Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, and Ziggy Ansah all have great pass rushing ratings in Madden 25. You will have to bring the heat because the Lions secondary is so weak.
Impact Players: WR Calvin Johnson Jr, QB Matt Stafford, RB Reggie Bush, RB Jahvid Best, DT Ndemukong Suh, DE Ziggy Ansah
Key Newcomers: DE Ziggy Ansah, RB Reggie Bush, CB Darius Slay
Biggest Strength: Calvin Johnson Jr. Remember how dominant Calvin Johnson was last season on Sundays? Take that and multiply it be 3 and that is what you should expect from virtual Megatron in Madden 25. Defenses have to double team him and provide additional help just to have a chance of stopping him.
Biggest Weakness: Secondary. The Lions just don’t have the speed and overall ratings required at the cornerback and safety position to stop any team with a few decent wide receivers. Madden NFL has always been all about passing which makes having a weak secondary quite painful.
Team: Green Bay Packers
Offensive Strategy: Pass Heavy. You have all sorts of options with the Packers offense. Aaron Rodgers is without question the best quarterback in the game due to his speed, throw power, throw accuracy combination. When you add in the fact that he has 4 impressive passing options in WR James Jones, WR Randall Cobb, WR Jordy Nelson, and TE Jermichael Finley, it becomes easy to understand why this is the most feared offense in Madden 25.
Defensive Strategy: Aggresive Man to Man. The Packers have the cornerbacks and pass rushers needed to have a scary Madden defense. In general their cornerbacks have better man to man ratings than zone coverage so you should be sure to emphasize that when running your virtual Packers defense.
Impact Players: QB Aaron Rodgers, WR James Jones, WR Randall Cobb, WR Jordy Nelson, TE Jermichael Finley, OLB Clay Matthews, CB Tramon Williams, CB Sam Shields, CB Casey Hayward, K Mason Crosby
Key Newcomers: DE Datone Jones, HB Eddie Lacy, HB Johnathan Franklin
Biggest Strength: Offensive firepower. The already impressive Packers of Madden 13 became even more powerful when they added Johnathan Franklin and Eddie Lacy (or Franklin and Bash as I am calling them). Those 2 running backs where 2 out of the top 3 rookie running backs in terms of Madden 25 and they will immediately be the virtual starter and backup in this year’s game.
Biggest Weakness: Safety. There was a time when Nick Collins and Charles Woodson were the Packers’ safeties in Madden NFL. Unfortunately for Packers fans, they don’t have much at safety anymore when it comes to Madden 25 effectiveness.
Team: Minnesota Vikings
Offensive Strategy: Run, run, and more run. The quarterback situation for the Madden 25 Vikings is terrible. QB Christian Ponder has very limited throw power which cuts the field down significantly. That shouldn’t be a huge deal for people who know how to use the Vikings correctly. If you aren’t running the ball at least 60% of the time with the Vikings then you know you are doing something wrong. Adrian Peterson can literally put a team on his back in this game and any smart player will take advantage of that.
Defensive Strategy: Get after the quarterback. Jared Allen is a big time pass rusher both on Sundays and in the video game. You need to utilize his skills if you want to have a chance to stop your opponent. If you sit back in coverage all day, your defense will get torn apart.
Impact Players: HB Adrian Peterson, WR Greg Jennings, TE Kyle Rudolph, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, DE Jared Allen, S Harrison Smith
Key Newcomers: CB Xavier Rhodes, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, DT Sharrif Floyd, WR Greg Jennings
Biggest Strength: Running game. Not only do the Vikings have the best Madden running back in a decade on their team but they also have a top 5 offensive line. Find 10 good rushing plays in your favorite playbook. When you mix them up correctly, you will be as close to unstoppable as it gets.
Biggest Weakness: Secondary. Unless you have speed and high overall ratings in your secondary, it will be a weakness in Madden 25 and that is the case with the Vikings. Is there secondary terrible? No. But it can’t defend a high powered passing offense on the virtual gridiron so until they get some ratings boosts through roster updates, secondary will continue to be an issue for the Minnesota Vikings.
